Preliminary Academic Chair Education

The purpose of Preliminary Academic Chair Education is to equip new chairs to balance their administrative duties with their research or teaching commitments and prepare them to handle a variety of issues they may face.

The program is offered annually in August.  Topics for the event include diversity and inclusion in decision making, faculty evaluation, legal issues, managing departmental budgets, assessment and academic analytics, and mentoring faculty. A panel of veteran department chairs will also cover additional topics and answer questions.

Department chairs who have been in the position for three years or fewer are strongly encouraged to attend this event. New chairs will be contacted in June or July and encouraged to attend.
